SUNSET FARM GOATS

Sunset Farm is located in the hill country of central Texas in Valley Mills, about 45 minutes northwest of Waco. The 150 acre farm is owned and operated by Brian and Jessica Sky McPherson. We started in the goat business with Boer goats and percentages in 1998. We have produced goats for the commercial meat market, show wethers and breeding stock. We are excited to be now offering at our farm, 100% NZ full blood and American Premier Kiko goats, 100 % full blood Savanna goats, 100% full blood Spanish goats (from the Kensing herd) and multiple crosses. Right now our NZ herd sire is a double bred Money Maker, top and bottom, buck that is solid red and produces colored kids. We are extremely happy with the Kiko cross doelings produced by this buck.

We are a “small” operation with 152 commercial does and 38 full blood and purebred animals. We use our full blood bucks over our commercial does and are comparing ADG’s on each different buck’s kids. All our goats, whether they are commercial or breed stock, are treated the same and run our pastures in rotation with loose minerals free choice, protein blocks or tubs and good hay when needed. Our goats are CD&T and CL vaccinated (except our wethers which are eaten by us and others). Our commercial kids and culls are sold directly to the slaughter facility and records are kept on the best carcass cutouts of each buck and does offspring. Fecals are checked prior to worming and we worm on an as needed basis only. We have very high expectations of our goats, especially during kidding and weaning. Any goat not meeting our requirements are culled and taken to slaughter.
