The International KIKO GOAT Association identifies the Fullblood Kiko goat which can trace it's pedigree to those few original New Zealand imports as well as various other classifications obtained through the use of structured breed up programs.  The purpose of these breeding programs are to attain the best possible representatives of this fantastic meat goat breed.  In addition, the IKGA supports a wide range of Kiko crosses developed for specific purposes and areas of the country.

Each breeder of the International KIKO GOAT Association has their own unique population genetics and through the use of a structured breed up or other breeding program can incorporate an open nucleus to ever enhance the genotypes and phenotypes of their herd's genetics to reach their goals.

At the present time The International KIKO GOAT Association will accept all other Kiko goat registration papers.

For the time being ALL gold seal AKGA papers which show at least 5 generations of "Pure" breeding will be grandfathered to the American Premier Purebred status. If other Kiko registration organizations change their classifications, the International KIKO GOAT Association reserves the right to exclude those associations classifications and or registration papers.

The International Kiko Goat Association recognizes the class 1 hybrid Kiko/Boer cross called the "American BoKi" which is specifically a 1/2 Kiko and 1/2 Boer cross.

The International KIKO GOAT Association  recognizes the class 2 hybrid Kiko/Boer cross called the "American MeatMaker" which is specifically a 3/4 Kiko and 1/4 Boer cross which has shown exceptional hardiness and meat production under southeastern environmental conditions.

In addition, the International KIKO Goat Association, recognizes a particular cross genetically composed of  a 15/16 (or higher) Boer and American BoKi called The "International MeatMaker.

American MeatMaker, American Premier, International MeatMaker and American BoKi are registered trademarks of International KIKO GOAT Association, Inc.

The International KIKO Goat Association also supports efforts of the commercial producer to manage a production herd for performance over time through The Commercial Production Registry of Experimental Crosses.  This classification supports those working to develop future "regional meat goats" with specific characteristics intended to better serve regional markets.

The International Kiko Goat Association registers goats in the following divisions and classifications:

THE KIKO REGISTRY:

   1. New Zealand Fullblood Kiko - This classification preserves the original Kiko bloodlines from New Zealand.

   2. American Premier Purebred Kiko -
This classification recognizes the Kiko bloodlines developed in North America.

   3. Percentage Kiko - This classification recognizes goats that are various crosses with the Kiko at selected percentage levels. A wide variety of goat breeds are crossed with the Kiko for this purpose.

THE KIKO / BOER CROSS REGISTRY:

   4. American BoKi -
This classification recognizes a specific cross between an American Premier Purebred Kiko (or New Zealand Fullblood Kiko) and a Fullblood Boer. The BoKi is of particular interest to owners of Boer goats who are adding Kiko influence to their herd. Proof of registration must be submitted for the Boer Registry of the Boer parent when registering a BoKi with the IKGA.

   5. American MeatMaker -
This classification recognizes a unique cross genetically composed of American Premier Purebred Kiko (or New Zealand Fullblood Kiko) and American BoKi. The American MeatMaker has shown exceptional hardiness and meat production under Southeastern United States environmental conditions.

   6. International MeatMakerThis classification recognizes a particular cross genetically composed of  a 15/16 (or higher) Boer and American BoKi.

THE COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION REGISTRY: (effective January 1, 2007)

   7. Experimental Crosses - This classification recognizes all classes of crosses (including multiple breeds) intended to develop exceptional and/or regional meat goats.  This inexpensive pedigree service is intended to facilitate on farm performance management efforts of IKGA members and others.

The specific requirements for registration in each classification are:

1. New Zealand Fullblood Kiko

· Both sire and dam, of the goat being registered, must be registered New Zealand Fullblood Kikos

OR

· The goat being registered must be a descendant exclusively from the initial Kikos imported into the United States from New Zealand as identified by their New Zealand herd prefix (GGL, CPR, HSL, SET, BTH, ARA, BAR, TLR, MRM, WWG, MAS AND RST)

· Gold Seal AKGA Registered goats (i.e. 15/16 or 94% Kiko Blood or higher) are eligible for registration in this classification.

OR

· Sire is a registered American Premier Purebred Kiko (or New Zealand Fullblood) and the dam is a registered 7/8 (88%) percentage Kiko or higher. (The goat being registered, however, must be 15/16 or 94% or higher Kiko blood)

· Note: A disciplined "breeding up" program can be used to develop goats qualified for this classification.
· Note: Both bucks and does can be registered in this classification.

3. Percentage Kiko

· The percentage of Kiko blood can vary from 50% to less than 94%.
· One parent must be an American Premier Purebred Kiko (or New Zealand Fullblood Kiko)
· Non-Kiko genetics must be specifically identified if known. (otherwise must be listed as "unknown")
· Note: Only does can be registered in this classification effective January 1, 2007.  (Bucks can be registered in The Commercial Production Registry as of January 1, 2007)

4. American BoKi

· Sire and dam, of the goat being registered, must be either a registered American Premier Purebred Kiko (or New Zealand Fullblood Kiko) OR a registered 15/16/ Boer or higher.

· Note: Sire (and dam) can be either Kiko or Boer
· Note: Both bucks and does can be registered in this classification
· Note: If the sire and dam of a goat are BoKis, the goat can be registered as a BoKi.

5. American MeatMaker

· Sire is a registered American Premier Purebred Kiko (or New Zealand Fullblood Kiko) and dam is a registered BoKi (see definition above)
· Note: Both bucks and does can be registered in this classification
· Note: If the sire and dam of a goat are American MeatMakers, the goat can be registered as an American MeatMaker.

6. International MeatMaker

 -
Sire is a registered Fullblood Boer and dam is a registered BoKi  (see definition above)
 -  NOTE: Both bucks and does can be registered in this  classification
 -  NOTE: If the sire and dam of a goat are International MeatMakers, the goat can be registered    as an International MeatMaker.

7. Experimental Crosses (effective January 1, 2007)

 - All less than 94% Kiko bucks applying for registration will be placed in this classification after January 1, 2007.  All less than 94% Kiko bucks previously registered will be moved to this classification on January 1, 2007.
 - All claims of Kiko genetics in The Commercial Production Registry (Experimental Crosses) must be supported with information from official registration certificates from an appropriate registry.
 - All other breeds in a cross must present registration certificates OR, if unregistered, the breeder must present information and sign a dated statement that the information is correct to the best of their knowledge.
 - Percents reported on certificates from unregistered goats will be followed by the letters "NR" which will be defined as "not registered, information submitted by breeder".

General Rules of Registration

* When presenting the AKGA registration certificate for registering an AKGA animal, both sides of the certificate need to be shown (the front of these certificates shows only the breeder, the back shows the current owner).

· Every registration Certificate is based on the representation in the Application for Registration and/or Application for Certificate Transfer. If an animal has been registered or transferred through error, misrepresentation or fraud, such Registration Certificate is VOID, together with any registration or transfer of progeny. The International Kiko Goat Association (IKGA) assumes no liability for damages arising from such entry or transfer.
· In the event of a conflict, IKGA records shall control. Appeals may be addressed to the Board of Directors.
· It is strongly recommended that unsound or unworthy animals not be presented for registration.
· The owner of the Dam at time of service will be recognized as the BREEDER of progeny produced by such service.
· The owner at the time of birth is responsible for applications. A completed and signed Sire Service Form must be prepared by the sire's owner and must be used if sire and dam are not owned by the same person.
· All support forms (Sire service, etc.) must be completed, signed, and submitted with original Application for Registration.
· When breeding does, care should be taken to assure does are only exposed to one buck per heat period. Should a doe be exposed to more than one buck during heat period, the parentage shall be verified by blood typing or DNA technology prior to applying for a Certificate of Registration.

Calculation of Percentage of Kiko blood

- Calculations are performed and recorded for the purpose of providing information as accurately as possible.  Percentage numbers printed on certificates and stored in the registration system are in whole numbers (no decimal places).  Non-whole numbers are "rounded up" (any calculation resulting in X.5 or higher is rounded up to the next whole percentage number while any number less than X.5 is rounded down to the next lower whole number).

Registration of Imported Animals, semen, embryos or clones

· The term imported shall apply to live animals, semen, embryos or clones bred and produced outside of North America.
· Such animals must be declared at time of entry as to their breeding to qualify for registry in the IKGA. The IKGA Application for Registration must be accompanied by an official certificate of pedigree or verification of breed purity from the official registry association or exporting organization of the country of origin.
· Notation of country of origin shall appear on the IKGA Registration Certificate

Identification and naming

· A permanent Identification is required for a goat to be registered by the IKGA.  This may be either a microchip or a tattoo.
o The IKGA encourages the use of Herd Prefixes.
o The IKGA does not have standard for any particular style or format of tattoo.

Transfers

· When a registered goat is sold, it must be transferred to the buyer and a transfer recorded on IKGA records before its progeny can be registered. The original Registration Certificate properly signed must be returned to the IKGA for a transfer to be made.

- Transfers should be made within 60 days of the sale.

Transfers from new registries (effective 1/4/06)

In order to support the continuing development of the Kiko breed the IKGA wishes to include as many fully documented goats in the IKGA registry as  possible.

The IKGA will accept registrations from any new Kiko registry if the  pedigree information listed on the applicant's supplied registration  certificate can be matched to verified pedigrees that already exist in the  IKGA Registry.

For the purposes of transferring a goat, the word "match" shall mean:

 - The following data elements must be literally the same
         - microchip number (or, all tattoos if microchips are not used)
         - animal's date of birth
         - sex of the animal
         - any ancestors of the applicant goat (if shown on the applicant's  supplied certificate and if known to the IKGA) must also match
by this same definition of the word "match"

 - The following data elements must be consistent with each other but may  vary slightly or be missing:
         - animal's name
         - animal's description
         - stated percentage of Kiko

 - if there is any other information on the supplied certificate that is in conflict with the data in the IKGA database (for example, whether the goat  is a single, twin or other), the IKGA reserves the right to require additional information, or to refuse registration.  Applicants will be  provided a clear explanation of what data elements are in question, if any.   It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide any needed information  in a written form suitable to the IKGA.

 - the IKGA Scientific Advisory Committee will review the additional supplied information as needed and make the final decision on the  registrability of the applicant goat.  This committee's decision shall be given to the registrar in writing and be available to the applicant for review and appeal if needed.  Any applicant's goat that requires the approval of the Scientific Advisory Committee shall be subject to a $25 surcharge per goat.

 - if an animal cannot be "matched" by the above definitions, the IKGA will offer an option of issuing a pedigree of 0% Kiko to allow an official form of documentation for the applicant's breeding program.  The fee for this pedigree shall be $5.

A "missing ancestor" (for example, the IKGA can find the grandparent or other ancestor of the applicant goat in it's database but not one or more intermediate ancestors) can be added to the IKGA database if the mandatory information for that animal as listed above is available in some certified form (i.e. a copy of a registration certificate which also conforms to the "match" definition above)

The "missing ancestor" rule shall apply to new goat registrations as well as transfers.

Non IKGA members do not qualify for registration or transfer consideration under the terms of this procedure.

Embryo Transfers

· When an embryo changes ownership, an application for transfer must be submitted that provides for embryos in recipients, fresh or frozen embryos. One application for transfer must be submitted with each change of ownership.
· If a registered recipient is being sold, the owner of the embryo must sign a document indicating the embryo transfer. Failure to sign such a document will indicate the seller of the animal is retaining ownership of the resulting goat.

Procedures for Revoking Certificate

· Certificates are issued based upon applications, certificates of pedigree furnished with the application, and sources available to the IKGA. The Board of Directors of the IKGA can revoke a certificate if that certificate issued by the Association is incorrect. The Board can make a determination that the certificate should be revoked and specifically set out the reason(s) for revocation. This shall apply to the original certificate, which was issued in error, and any subsequent issued certificates which are affected.

Authorizations

· When an animal is owned by a company, ranch, farm, Club, corporation, university or school, Family or partnership (of related or unrelated persons), or any entity other than an individual, the IKGA must have a document on file to indicate who may sign documents for that entity.
· In the case of a minor child (younger than 18 years of age), the IKGA requires a written statement from the legal guardian or parent giving the birth date of the child and designating the person(s) signing in behalf of the minor child.
· When the owner of an animal is deceased, the IKGA must have legal documentation on file appointing the agent or representative for the estate.
· Authorization of an agent may be cancelled by written notification by record owner. Such termination of authorization will take effect on date received in the IKGA office.

Duplicate Registration Certificate

· A duplicate registration certificate is a new registration certificate when the original has been lost or destroyed. It is issued when sufficient proof of loss and proper identification of the goat has been submitted to the IKGA office. The duplicate registration certificate will be denoted "Duplicate" and the original will become void.
· The IKGA may issue a duplicate registration certificate if the current record owner or authorized agent files the proper affidavit, completed in all respects and stating the circumstances under which the original registration certificate was lost or destroyed.
· In regard to involuntary transfer of title situations, including but not limited to court judgments or security interest foreclosure, when it is proven to the IKGA's satisfaction with legal court documents, requirement of affidavit of the record owner may be waived and the current owner deemed eligible for a duplicate registration certificate.

Replacement or correction of Registration Certificate

· A replacement registration certificate or correction is a new registration certificate, which is issued when the original certificate is in existence but has been defaced or wrong information is on the original. The original certificate must be surrendered to the IKGA office.
