Round Pen (in cattle pasture)
Charles Branch, Sanford, NC
Used to feed goats but keep the cattle out. The shed shown in the center of the pen is a carport (inexpensive). The pen will hold 200 adult goats allowing 8 sq.ft./head, for short periods of time. The inside of the pen can be configured temporarily with cattle panels and T-posts for working, separating, loading, etc. A HINT: Neither cows nor goats destroy round pens as bad as they do pens with corners.
Guillotine (vertical) Gate
Charles Branch, Sanford, NC
Used with above pen to allow goats into the pen but keep cattle out. Note: gate also serves as a "head gate". Gates can be solid (if desired) and made from wood or metal but wooden ones would need waterproofing.
This scale was made to fit inside our raised working platform (also homemade). We purchased a heavy-duty industrial postal scale on e-Bay that's about 12x15 inches in size (can't remember exactly). It was glued to the bottom piece of plywood, with the top piece of plywood "floating" freely but attached at the four corners with bolts. The holes for the bolts in the top piece are large enough so the bolts don't bind up. The scale adjusts for the weight of the top piece of plywood and resets itself to zero after weighing each goat.
